What is the best way to protect a REALLY GOOD idea with no money?

At work the other day I came up with a really good idea that would improve the use of carrying bags such as luggage, briefcases, laptop bags, purses, etc. It has to do with keeping track of your things. I come up with really great ideas every once in a while bu I have never done anything about it in the past. I am poor. I don't have 4 pennies on me as I am writing this. Is there a way that I can protect my idea without paying for patent searches, making prototypes, or paying for a patent application process. ...and, yes I've heard about mailing myself the idea in a sealed envelope and not opening it but that is not practical and is not proveable in court. I tried to get some contact information for Samsonite Corporation but I can not find anything on the web site. Also, maybe I should approach Joy Mangano? any ideas? help me. Remeber I'm starting a million dollar idea with no money. Thanks.
