On a personal level what else could I do to lower my carbon footprint?

You could start a compost pile to prevent more waste in landfills. Or start a small garden at your residence so that at least some of your food didn't have to travel from farm to you using fossil fuels. Also, shop at farmers markets not just local stores so that you can really get most everything you need locally sourced.
